During the early 20th century, the frontier was closing as Americans settled the West, and it brought forth a sort of nostalgia for stories about the Wild West, the Plains, and the frontier. Stewart Edward White was one of the authors who helped keep the Western spirit alive with his books.

If you love the outdoors at all, you will love this book. If you enjoy good story telling, this is the book for you. One of my favorite authors, F.W. Boreham, is from this era as well and I heard about White in one of Boreham's books. I figured anyone he recommended had to be good. I was not disappointed! The Forest is a great book, it really has the ability to take you away and into the book. In your day to day living it is nice to have an escape, and The Forest will do just that.Product details

The Forest Stewart Edward White 9781519706430 Books Reviews
I could never get into the meaning of this particular story, but it could have been me trying to compare the book to others I have recently enjoyed. Again, I am sorry, but I know the Author is reputable and I will read more of his works in the future.
"The Forest" contains a collection of related short stories about Mr. White's camping experiences in -- I believe -- South Eastern Canada, probably just north of Michigan. Mr. White's style is often humorous, often educational, sometimes exciting, and always entertaining. His vocabulary and syntax are of the early 1900's. Anyone who has ever been camping will find familiar at least some of the situations to which Mr. White alludes. Those unfortunate enough not to have enjoyed the camping experience will find themselves at least planning for such an adventure.
I read "The Forest" several times in college and became so enamored with Mr. White's writing that I began collecting his books. The collection now numbers over thrity.
This book was well written for all levels of education. Just stop before your finished and think 'do I really want to ruin it?'
written about a hundred years ago, white paints colorful tales that let me enjoy the forests and the outdoors vicariously, which is much easier on my aching body. this writing style is gone; i'm glad some still exists for those who look hard enough.
The Forest is a fascinating look at Canada as frontier. The writing is period prose and the imagery is primeval.
One of my favorite writers. This is one of his better ones.
The highest praise I can give this book is that it makes me want to tramp and camp in the forest and catch fish for my dinner. This book contains engaging anecdotes, some helpful advice on trekking and camping and at times some very poetic lines.
